What are the differences between the types of roof panels?

What are roof panels?

Roof panels, also known as roof sandwich panels or insulated roof panels, have been around for years and are used as a construction product. They are mainly applied on pitched roofs of barns, stables, and storage sheds. Roof panels are used to quickly build an insulated roof.

Why would you choose roof panels instead of a traditional roof?

Roof Panels are ideal if you want to build quickly or if high insulation values are important. They are an economical choice, score high on sustainability, and their lightweight makes them suitable for many applications. They are available in various shapes and thicknesses, with different coatings and colors on the exterior. Additionally, it’s easy to attach PV panels to roof panels.

A sandwich roof panel consists of a steel outer and inner shell, with a layer of insulating PIR foam between these two layers. buiten- en binnenschil met tussen deze 2 schillen een laag isoleren PIR isolatieschuim.

What are the differences between the different types of roof panels?

There are differences in the shape of the steel outer shell and in the thicknesses of the panel.
SAB supplies insulated sandwich roof panels in thicknesses of 70, 90, 110, 130, and 160 mm with a 3-rib trapezoidal / TL profile , and in thicknesses of 83, 120, and 160 mm with a corrugated / SL profile. Both versions are also available in an ECO variant, which has an aluminum foil inner layer instead of steel.

In addition, there are roof panels with a tile-shaped profile on the outside. SAB does not supply these, but some other manufacturers do.

clean and tight overlap is also possible for all roof panels. This is used when the roof surface is longer than the maximum panel length. A clean overlap is possible for any panel with a minimum length of 2800 mm plus the length of the overlap.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between sandwich panels and roof sheets?
Sandwich panels are insulated. Roof sheets are single steel sheets without insulation.

How much does a roof panel cost per square meter?
The cost per square meter varies depending on the product. The thicker the panel, the more expensive it is.

How long does a roof panel last?
A roof panel can last up to 50 years. This also depends on the type of coating used. Weather conditions and the location of the building (coastal or inland) also affect its lifespan.

Can I install roof panels myself?
You could install roof panels yourself, but without the right tools it is not easy. You have to work on a roof, and safety is very important. For large roofs, it is best to hire a specialist, especially since cranes with vacuum lifters are often used.

Are roof panels weather-resistant?
Most roof panels are designed to withstand various weather conditions, but the level of weather resistance can vary depending on the material and quality.

Are roof panels low-maintenance?
Most roof panels require little maintenance; rain usually provides natural cleaning. However, cleaning to remove dirt and leaves can definitely extend their lifespan.

We have various metal sandwich panels for the roof.

A well-known and widely used product is the SAB D 160.1000 TL. This is a 160 mm thick panel with a thick insulation layer for excellent insulating performance, featuring a 3-rib trapezoidal profile on the outside. Additionally, thicknesses of 70, 90, 110, and 130 mm are available from our factory in Geldermalsen. Ideal for mounting solar panels. This panel is also available with FM Approval.

Mounting PV panels on SAB Roof Panels TL is easily possible. For example, use the K2 Railsysteem for this purpose.

The standard stacking of packages for roof panels with a TL profiling is A/A/A/A, making it easy to install them with a (VIAVAC) vacuum lifter.

There are also insulated roof panels with corrugated SL profiling in thicknesses of 83, 120, and 160 mm; this panel is called SAB D SL.

Finally, there are two different ECO versions: the SAB D 70.1000 TG Eco and the SAB D 83.1000 SG Eco.The SAB D 70 roof panel with trapezoidal profiling (T) has aluminum foil (G) on the inside. The ECO version of the SAB D 83 roof panel with sinus profiling (S) also has aluminum foil (G) on the inside.

With these, you can save both weight and cost.
