SAB-profiel receives Circular EPS Award for smart return service.

Handling EPS packaging wisely not only delivers environmental benefits, but from now on also recognition. SAB-profiel has received the Circular EPS Award for its innovative return service SAB-retour—a system that makes it easy to collect and reuse used EPS transport blocks.
The ideal protective material
EPS—expanded polystyrene—is lightweight, strong, and easy to shape as needed. That makes it an ideal material to protect products during transport. For SAB-profiel’s sandwich panels, the custom-made EPS blocks are indispensable during shipping. The panels are protected by the EPS and arrive at the customer without damage.
But after delivery these blocks often remain on the construction site and eventually end up as waste. A pity, because EPS is reusable and 100% recyclable. With SAB-retour, SAB-profiel shows how to deploy this material smartly within a circular chain.
From waste to reuse
With SAB-retour, collecting EPS blocks is arranged easily for customers.
- Upon delivery, SAB-retour places a free SAB-retour box on the construction site.
- The free pick-up service is requested via WhatsApp or an online form.
- 95% of the collected EPS is suitable for direct reuse.
- The remaining 5% is recycled and applied again.
The result? Less waste, a cleaner construction site, and a practical example of circular working in the construction sector.
That deserves an award
The Circular EPS Award was festively presented to SAB-profiel. Rogier Goes, director of the industry association Stybenex Verpakkingen, handed the Award to Govert Kockelkoren, Managing Director of SAB-profiel.
“SAB-retour shows that it is both profitable and feasible to reuse EPS. We hope this initiative will be followed across the sector,” said Rogier Goes. Kockelkoren responded proudly: “This award fits perfectly with our ambition to take a step forward every day in sustainability.”

About the Circular EPS Award
The Circular EPS Award is a joint initiative of Slim Verpakken and Stybenex Verpakkingen—the industry association of Dutch manufacturers of EPS products. With this Award, organizations are celebrated that actively contribute to the circular processing of EPS. By collecting the material separately and delivering it to certified processors, EPS can be given a new life again and again—as protective material or, for example, as insulation.
