New sustainable distribution center for Wasco in Deventer with FM Approved SAB panels.
Wasco is a leading wholesaler in the installation industry with several branches in the eastern part of the country. Due to autonomous growth, a new distribution center was urgently needed. The new DC in Deventer, covering 37,000 m2, is equipped with various SAB roof and facade products, such as roof profiles SAB 135R/930, sandwich panels SAB WB 100.1000 M8L FM approved in Colorcoat Prisma® Sirius, and point profiles SAB-Pyramid 37/460 in Colorcoat Prisma® Black Grey. Thanks to all the materials and measures taken, it has become a sustainable building with a BREEAM Excellent rating.
Visible location along the A1
The new building is situated in the Kloosterlanden industrial area, in a prime visible location along the A1. A previous building on the site was dismantled in a circular manner. The developer and builder responsible for the new construction is Ten Brinke from Varsseveld. Since Wasco joined the project early on, it could be further developed to meet their specific requirements.
Abstract shape with soft rounded corners designed by Palazzo
The building was designed by Architectenbureau Palazzo. The abstract shape of the industrial structure is softened by rounded corners on the sides with high public activity. The office is designed as an integral part of the building and is highly visible from the access route. The green outdoor space connects with the area’s historic greenery. Safety and usability were key considerations in the design, with the logistics operations completely separated from the routes for parking, walking, and cycling.
Distribution center with mezzanine, offices, and docks
In addition to the usual racks, the distribution center is partially equipped with a fully automated robot system. The facility includes a 34,000 m2 warehouse, a mezzanine (1,700 m2), offices (2,300 m2), and 30 loading and unloading docks. There is also space for 170 parking spots, some of which are equipped with charging stations.
Healthy and Sustainable
The design takes health and sustainability into account according to BREEAM-NL standards. Special attention has been given to providing ample daylight and ventilation. Sandwich facade elements have been mounted onto the steel structure. The roof consists of steel SAB roof panels with high-quality FM Approved insulation and a PVC roofing membrane.
The new distribution center has received the BREEAM Excellent completion certificate, highlighting the commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. It is a state-of-the-art facility that not only meets the highest standards but also contributes to a more sustainable future.
Playful building thanks to roof and wall cladding
Elan Varsseveld handled the installation of the metal roof and facade elements. For Elan, this was a relatively large project, with a roof area of 34,000 m², a wall surface of 8,500 m², 200 m² of composite materials, and 1,700 meters of aesthetic box profiles. Since the building must comply with BREEAM standards, material sourcing considers both the origin of the materials and the distance between the supplier and the construction site. Ideally, suppliers are located nearby to reduce transportation, thereby lowering emissions. This is one of the reasons SAB was selected, as all production of the SAB 135R/930 roof profiles, SAB WB 100.1000 M8L FM Approved sandwich panels in Colorcoat Prisma Sirius, and SAB-Pyramid 37/460 point profiles in Colorcoat Prisma Black Grey takes place in the Netherlands.
The end result is an impressive building with a beautiful roof and wall structure, where the sandwich panels in the facade, composite elements, and aesthetic box profiles are seamlessly integrated.
